Is Ramesh Sippy going to re-make Sholay?
Well, atleast that was the buzz of the tinsel town couple of weeks back. Ramesh Sippy however confirmed, that as of now he has no such intentions. He thinks that he just cannot make such a masterpiece again. I agree 100% with him!
But the thought that came to my mind after I read this rumor was - who would be casted in Sholay, if it was re-made?? In other words, who would play the role that Amitabh Bachan, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachan, Hema Malini, Gabbar Singh & Sanjeev Kumar played?? Any thoughts?? I'll tell mine, after I hear what all of you think:)

i don't think its going to happen Mannat. You just can't remake a film like Sholay. No one could replace those roles.
Once of a lifetime type of a movie that was.

Poonam...I think you didn't get what I was asking/telling. Yeah, I know it's not going to be re-made - and that's why I said that Ramesh Sippy confirmed that it was simply a rumor. But the question is not whether it would be remade or not. The HYPOTHETICAL question is that IF it is remade, who do you think should be casted in it for the various main characters of the movie?

Yeah, Sholay is a one time movie. If they try to repeat it. It wont work I guess.
In "Sholay", all suited their roles so well. And the timing of the movie is also just great.

i did understand Mannat what you were saying...I was just saying that its true, it just can't happen.
I can't even think who the characters would be in a new Sholay because those actors/actresses are irreplaceable.

Poonam - Veeru ka role agar Sunny yan Bobby ko mil jaata to obviously Esha would have not been casted for Basanti's role- after all they r bhai behen. But now when I think about it, Bobby could have suited for Veeru's role. Esha----I personally don't like her.
But yes you are right - Abhishek would be the perfect choice for Jai's role.

Leave actors, arre, music ka kya hoga? I mean, puhleaase, i dont want any one replacing a Lata's 'aa jab tak hai jaan' with sth like 'dhoom macha le'!

anonymous---very interesting. But Rajesh Khanna for Sanjeev Kumar and Sharukh was Veeru?? Yeh baat kuch hazam nahi hui:)
Anyways, Deepak, you are right. I don't think there is any way such a movie could be remade. I mean if someone ever attempts to, I am sure it's gonno be 100% screwed up.
As far as music is concerned, Lata Mangeshkar could always sing the 'jab tak hain jaan' again...;)
The bottom line is, that NO, this movie should be made again. The old and the only version is good enough, that everytime you watch it, you find it all the more interesting.

Tarun, thanks for visiting my blog. I think Irfan Khan for Gabar Singh should work well too.
But again, God forbid, if this movie is ever re-made, it just makes me wonder how it would be. I mean, I am sure they will use the same plot with a new aspects. I guess I need to keep imagining something that I myself don't want to happen:)

Sholay can't be remade... its one helluva of a movie from bollywood...
Everybody has told about their choice for amitabh's, dharmendra's, basanti's, gabbar's etc role...
but no body has spoken for dhanno!! :) Woh to movie ki highlight thi =) Right?
