There we go again....

Well, it just doesn’t end yet. I could never understand what’s up with these religious groups that were set up for the betterment of every religion. Let’s talk about SGPC (Sharomni Gurduwara Prabandak Committee). Why couldn’t they let the fictional movies stay as such, and not let them mingle with the real life?

The “Jo Bole So Nihal” fiasco was still in the midst of religious debates when B & B got released. Now you must be thinking what does B&B have to do with this? Well, apparently Rani Mukherji is playing a sikh girl in the movie and she is shown doing drugs. So SGPC is raising an objection saying that such scenes should not be shown in the movies as they put the sikh religion look bad.

Now I am a sikh and I really respect my religion. But I don’t agree with such things. The SGPC is saying that the censor board should have a sikh group included in the board. Now this is simply ridiculous. If this happens, all the religions will demand to have their group included in the censor board.

I feel that movies are merely for entertainment purposes and should be enjoyed with a light heart. I could understand that while watching movies we do sometimes get carried away and start thinking that such things would happen to us as well (which in some cases in true). All the groups in the communities are established for some specific purpose and that should be their sole goal.

I don't understand why they are doing this NOW after the release of the movie?? There are many chances prior to the release where it goes through the censor board...I even heard that the Sikh group also had a chance to preview the movie prior to the release...then why do such things??? I agree with you totally on this issue. Good post!

I'm a sikh as well... and i know what is wrong for me and what is not.. i don't need anybody to tell me that me what should i watch.. or what should i do!!

These guys just want little publicity.. so that they can leverage it in getting more votes.. or more junta behind them!!

    Really crazy people...!!

i have seen both movies... and to me no scene looked to be offensive to sikh religion!! these guys shud take care of other aspects rather than bossing around!!

Poonam, yes, I think the sikh group watched "Jo Bole So Nihal" prior to its release. But I guess they realized it too late that it was against the sikh religion...and made such a big deal out of it. I hate the fact that due to all this there was a bomb blast in Liberty theatre in Delhi & innocent lives were lost.
Manish...true...they have so many other areas they need to work on, and since they cannot do anything there, they pick on such small things and make a big issue out of them.
Priya, thanks for visiting my blog. Yes, I am a sikh and I do respect my religion a lot. But what is wrong is wrong. U r right. If all the religions start picking on such small things in every movie, phir tou ho gayaa humaare bollywood ka kalyaan! Movies r simply for entertainment purposes...
Manpreet...exactly...they r just doing what Shiv Sena has been doing all these past years and u r right, this is just another mode of gaining publicity & thus getting more votes. I hope all this comes to an end soon.

Its like making a mountain out of a molehill...no substance in the matter. Agreed with you totally. And BnB and JBSN are both supposed to be light hearted movies..something to make people laugh....somuch for hhumor.

    Hey Mannat!

SGPC was ok with the movie initially, but when other sikh groups started accusing SGPC for doing nothing in this regard, they changed their stance (for political reasons)

These issues are politically motivated n thats it. Rmmbr KKHH? They made fun of the small sardar kid, there were occurances of "12" a couple of times in the movie, nobody said anything to that.

I think that they shudn't involve any religious interference in govt. or any other independent agencies like Censor Board.

I wasn't offended by the name "Om Jai Jagdish" (although thought it was a weird name for a movie) and thank god Shiv Sena didn't think about the movie that way....

Kaush..yeah, true...I guess that's what they get paid for...who knows! And I know...both these movies r supposed to be full of fun and they r spoiling it for everyone...
Madhu...quite possible...but don't they see so many other areas in Punjab that need to be taken care off...??
Gaurav...that's what I think...there should be no interference of religion in politics..or in censor board. Each of these organizations should work independently. Par abh in longon ko kaun samjhaaye. I thought I heard it somewhere too that SGPC saw Bole So Nihal prior to the first screening, and did not raise any objections..but I am sure somthing triggered from somewhere later and they made such a huge fuss out of nothing!

Yeah, true its really dumb for any organisation to pick up on a movie. And most times, these movies wud in any case fade out on their own. As per those who hv seen the film, Jo Bole... was as it is quite a mediocre film and no one wud hv known it after two weeks! But thanks to these tactics, everyone is talking about it, and prob now will go and see it als. The protest does not serve any purpose!

Protest is fine, but there was bombing of two Delhi halls too! That was not done at all. And it hurts the largest to realise that one of those two halls is very very near our house, and is a fav haunt spot for us!

That's exactly what I was telling one of my friends, Deepak. It was such a normal movie and would have been out of everyone's mind in no time...but because of all this hype about nothing...many ppl now wanna go & watch it. It's sad...but yet, another truth about politics!

Very good post and good discussion (though I know this should be implicit)

Most of my thinking has already been posted here but I'll make the point - Reigion in politics and politics in religion can lead nowhere but DOWNSIDE to a country. Tell these crazy fanatics, we are supposed to be from a SECULAR country and don't create a mess for nothing.

Remember Hare Rama Hare Krishna and all that drugs and stuff - I think in some way people were proably more liberal or atleast simple to take undue advantage of anything that gets in thoer sight.

I hope these people get themself educated and learn to live and let live, rather than killing people with blasts for their selfish and political motives.

    JoBole So Neha.... Satsriyakaal !

These things are done by Political Parties... just to bag more votes.

Well, I got back here because, there's was a breakthrough - atleast so-called, that the notorious group had planned this attack long time back and it is a co-incidence that the controversial movie was playing.

AND I don't buy this crap because, no one wants to take responsibility and subdue it by calling it a terror act. These people don't value human life and should NOT be given capital punishment but a tortuous life.
